Why it matters
When work and personal devices share the same Wi-Fi, a compromise on one (e.g. a smart plug or a kid’s laptop) can put work data at risk. Network segmentation puts your work machine and phone on a separate logical network (VLAN or dedicated SSID) so that even if something else on the home network is compromised, your work traffic and files are harder to reach.
What we do
- Design – We map which devices are work vs. personal/smart home and design a simple segmentation scheme (e.g. “Work” SSID or VLAN, “Home” for everything else).
- Router and AP config – Configure your router or mesh/APs to support separate networks; we set firewall rules so work and home don’t talk to each other except where you need (e.g. printer).
- Device placement – Connect work devices to the work network and leave smart home and family on the other; we document what goes where so you can add new devices correctly.
- Ongoing – We explain how to add new devices to the right network and when to revisit (e.g. new router).
